Pressure Switch

A pressure switch is an automated device that operates an electrical contact when a preset fluid pressure is reached. Instead of being manually switched, it automatically closes or opens a circuit to regulate, monitor, or protect a system.

Core Components & Operation

  • Sensing Element/Transducer

This part of the switch comes into contact with the fluid or gas and converts the measured pressure into mechanical or electrical movement.

  • Electrical Switch

The mechanical action from the sensing element triggers an electrical switch, which opens or closes a circuit.

  • Set Point

The specific pressure level at which the switch activates. This can be fixed or adjustable by the user.

Key Features

  • Adjustability

Many switches allow for adjustment of the set point, allowing for application-specific pressure thresholds.

  • Digital Output

Pressure switches provide a simple two-state output: the electrical circuit is either on or off, making them suitable for control systems.

  • Durability

Designed to withstand harsh environments and repetitive use, ensuring long-term, reliable performance.

  • Versatility

Capable of monitoring a wide range of liquids, gases, and vacuum conditions across many industries, from refrigeration to fire sprinklers.

  • Safety

Act as critical safety devices, for example, to trip a compressor in an air conditioning system to prevent overpressure.
