Safety Relief Valve

Safety relief valves for compressed air protect systems and personnel by automatically venting excess air when pressure exceeds a set point, preventing damage and hazardous conditions. Key features include their automatic operation, customizable set pressure, material construction (often brass or stainless steel) with rubber or plastic seals, and the ability to re-seal once pressure drops. They also typically include a manual lift ring for testing and have threaded ports for easy installation into various points of a compressed air system.

Primary Features & Functions

  • Overpressure Protection

This is the core function. The valve opens to release air to the atmosphere when the system's internal pressure reaches a predetermined level.

  • Automatic Operation

The valve acts independently, opening and closing as pressure fluctuates without user intervention.

  • Re-Sealing Capability

After releasing excess pressure and the system pressure drops to a safe level, the valve closes and seals to maintain the system's integrity.

Design & Construction

  • Set Pressure

The valve is set to a specific pressure level, which can be customized to the system's requirements.

  • Materials

Valves are commonly made from metals like brass or stainless steel, which are durable and resist corrosion.

  • Sealing

Seals are often made from rubber or plastic to ensure an airtight fit and reliable operation.

  • Spring-Loaded Design

Many valves use a spring-and-plug mechanism, where the spring's tension determines the pressure at which the valve opens.

  • Manual Pull Ring

Many safety relief valves include a plated steel pull ring, allowing operators to manually open the valve for routine testing and verification of proper function.

Installation & Maintenance

  • Installation Points

These valves can be installed at various points in a compressed air system, including air receiver tanks and discharge lines, wherever protection is needed.

  • Threaded Ports

A threaded port on the valve body facilitates easy attachment to pipes and other system components.

  • Regular Inspection

Regular inspection is crucial to ensure the valve is clean, undamaged, and functioning optimally, as it's a critical safety device.
